Y Sports

 

The Y-Sports Programme is a new YMCA initiative based in Gisborne and the surrounding regions. The programme is designed at giving primary school children an introduction into a variety of sports with a view to breaking down barriers and creating pathways into recreation by increasing their physical competence and confidence. The programme is based on the secondary school's physical education syllabus and encompasses children of all skill levels and athletic ability.

Four Staff are supervised by an experienced and qualified staff member, Shirley Kemp,  who has had a proactive stance in a wide range of sports in the Gisborne/Tairawhiti region for over 20 years. The Y-Sports Team works closely with the regional sports organizations and specific sport development officers to ensure the correct alignment of the YMCA's sessions and can also provide additional information and support on a request basis.
