Te Whare Kohungahunga o Y Tamariki is a licensed and chartered education and care centre with the Ministry of Education.

Y Tamariki is a non profit making community service under the umbrella of YMCA Gisborne. The centre caters for children aged 0-6 years of age.

Hours of Operation

The centre is open Monday to Friday, 7.30am till 5.30pm excluding Statutory Holidays and between Christmas and New Years.

Curriculum

Y Tamariki Programmes and Experiences are guided by Te Whariki - The New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum. Children experience an environment where they "Grow up as component and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society." Activities and experiences in the centre are child initiated and teacher supported. They are based upon children's strengths and Interests.

Management/Nga Kaiwhakahaere

The centre is governed by YMCA Gisborne Board of Directors and is managed by qualified and experienced personnel. Whanau Meetings are held each term to ensure the families are informed and consulted.

The centre boast a fantastic team of qualified and experienced Early Childhood Teachers.
Our Staff to child ratios are in accordance with the Ministry of Education Regulations and in most cases they exceed the minimum requirements
1 adult:5 children for under twos
1 adult:8 children for over twos

Fees/Nga Utu

Annual Membership = $40 per family
Hourly Rates:
Member Rate $4.00
Non Member Rate $4.20
Fees are charged for times and days enrolled. Attendance over and above the enrolled times shall be an extra cost.
WINZ Subsidies can be accessed to those eligible to subsidise fees.
20 Free ECE Hours can be accessed to those three and four year olds that are eligible

Absenteeism

Notified Absence = 50% of fee
Un-notified Absence = Full Fee
WINZ Subsidised Absence = Full Fee
Payment Options include cash, cheque, eftpos, credit card, automatic payment and internet banking.

Meals/Kai

Y Tamariki provides all meals for children, Meals include morning and afternoon tea and a cooked lunch and dessert. All meals are designed to meet the daily nutritional intake for children and ensure that healthy options are utilised.  Dietary concerns and special meals can be made to cater for your child/s, family/whanau needs and values.

Excursions

Y Tamariki is fortunate to have access to many of the programmes that YMCA Gisborne offer the community. Children at Y-Tamariki will have access to Y Gym, Y Music, the stadium, vehicles for group excursions.
