Bilingual Teaching Curriculum
Te Whare Kohungahunga o Y Tamariki is in Kaiti with three learning spaces, Te ruma Koruru for ages 0 – 2 years. Ngā tamariki are provided with a safe space to grow, explore achieve their milestones and are cared for by our knowledgeable kaiako.
Te ruma Hinengaro for ages 2-4 years old. Ngā tamariki are encouraged and supported to be socially, emotionally, and physically confident. Tamariki continue their journey of discovering ‘Ko wai au’ (Who am I) and are given opportunities to become aware of their own capabilities.
Te ruma Koruru and Hinengaro share a playground.
Te ruma Manaakitanga for ages 3 – 6 years old who must be self-managing. Tamariki experience fun, with a challenging and engaging learning environment that supports and encourages the development of skills and knowledge in preparation for kura/school. They have their own art ruma to express their creativity and talents. Te ruma Manaakitanga have their own playground.
Our day starts with all tamariki together for karakia on the deck outside Te Ruma Koruru at 9:00am then tamariki will move off to their ruma for the day. Our end of day is again back in the Hinengaro space from 3:00pm where whanau can pick up their tamariki.

Open hours
Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 5:15pm
(excluding Statutory Holidays and between Christmas and New Year’s).
Fees
The hourly rate is $7 per child. Fees are charged for the times and days enrolled.
Attendance over and above the enrolled times shall be an extra cost. WINZ Subsidies can be accessed by those eligible to subsidise fees. 20 Free ECE Hours can be accessed for tamariki three years and older.
Staffing
Y Tamariki is blessed with an awesome, qualified teaching team led by three Team Leaders and supported by the General Manager – Education, Dianah Foley.
Koka Charlene Felgitscher in Te Ruma Koruru is responsible for strategic direction, curriculum review cycle and health and safety in the centre.
Koka Elan Price in Te Ruma Hinengaro is responsible for Assessment, Planning and Evaluation (APE) for all teaching staff.
Koka Maria Roberts in Te Ruma Manaakitanga is responsible for teachers’ professional growth and supporting provisional teachers to achieve full registration.
We have training and unqualified teachers, all part of our fantastic team.
Curriculum
Te mai nga pou o Te Whare Kohungahunga o Y Tamariki, Whakawhanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Whakamana and Kotahitanga. We want to provide a bilingual curriculum that reflects our kaupapa o te whenua (place-based curriculum) while committed to te Tiriti o Waitangi.
We will provide a nurturing, caring environment that supports tamariki to be empowered to believe in themselves as capable, confident, and competent learners who can reach their potential.
Every tamaiti will be treated with aroha (love) and whakaute (respect).
Kia whakapiki te taha hinengaro, te taha tinana, te taha wairua me te taha whatumanawa o ngā tamariki, ngā whānau me ngā kaiako katoa. (We will build strong mind, body, spirit, heart, and soul of our tamariki, our whānau, and our kaiako).
For all whānau at Y Tamariki to feel a sense of belonging, with respectful, reciprocal relationships between kaiako, tamariki, and whānau.

Meals
Y Tamariki provides all meals for tamariki. Meals include morning and afternoon tea, a cooked lunch and fruit.
All meals are designed to meet the daily nutritional intake for tamariki and ensure that healthy options are utilised.
Dietary concerns and special meals can be made to cater for your tamaiti/tamariki, whanau needs and values.
Excursions
Y Tamariki offers swimming lessons each term for tamariki from Te Ruma Manaakitanga.
All ruma plan visits into the community to explore outside the centre so our tamariki have real, knowledgeable learning experiences.
Van Service
We have a van service available for morning pickup from 8:00–9:00am and afternoon drop off from 2:30–4:00pm. Tamariki must be within city limits and in booking for 30 hours per week. All enquiries at reception with Koka Morgan.
